What will Wayne do?
Tonight, on the Arena Stage, when the great Wayne Shorter performs with his quartet, beginning at 7 p.m. — what will he do?
He may play a lot, or he may play a little. Hard to predict. He may lean against the piano, noodling on his soprano saxophone, or he may dig in to excavate notes in such a way that it makes your skin itch and your eyeballs pop out. He may vacate his leadership role, allowing pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade to direct traffic, or he may spin them on their musical heads, shoot them toward the outer Wayne Shorter Galaxies.
